Merino Garment Care
natural warmth, softness, and durability
Our Merino wool garments are made to last, but proper care is essential to keep them looking and feeling their best. Here are some tips to help you care for your merino wool garments:
Washing
Hand wash or machine wash on a gentle cycle using cool water. Water is enough to clean Merino wool but if you must use a detergent, choose a mild detergent specifically designed for wool in very small quantity. Avoid using hot water or harsh detergents, as they can damage the fibers. Do not bleach or use fabric softeners, as they can damage the wool fibers.
Drying
Avoid using a dryer to dry your merino wool garment. Instead, lay it flat on a towel to air dry. If you must use a dryer, choose a low heat setting and use a dryer rack to prevent the garment from stretching or losing its shape. Do not wring or twist the garment, as this can damage the fibers and cause it to lose its shape.
Ironing
To remove wrinkles, iron on a low heat setting with a damp cloth placed between the iron and the garment. Do not iron directly on the garment, as this can damage the fibers.
Storing
Store your merino wool garment in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight. Avoid hanging the garment, as this can cause it to stretch out of shape. Instead, fold it and store it in a drawer or on a shelf.
Pilling
Pilling, or the formation of small balls on the surface of the wool, is a natural occurrence and can happen with any wool garment. To prevent excessive pilling, avoid rubbing or brushing your merino wool garments against rough surfaces, and hand wash or machine wash them inside out.
Moths
Merino wool is a natural fiber and can be prone to damage from clothes moths. To protect your garments, store them in sealed bags or containers with mothballs or cedar chips. Regularly inspect your wool garments for signs of moth damage, such as small holes or webbing.
